Press Release: Bishop-Wisecarver Donates $3,600 to East Bay National Society of Black Engineers

Employee Event Raises Funds to Support Saturday STEM & Robotics Program for Local Students

Pittsburg, Calif. – September 18, 2019 – Bishop-Wisecarver, a trusted industrial automation company offering proven motion solutions that are expertly designed and delivered to perform, today announced it has donated $3,600 to the East Bay National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) to help fund STEM and robotics programs for pre-college age students in the area.

Bishop-Wisecarver employees selected the East Bay NSBE non-profit group as the beneficiary of a friendly bowling tournament designed to generate as many funds as possible for local students. The donation will be used to help support the group’s Saturday STEM & Robotics Program that has teams participating in the FIRST Lego League Jr. and FIRST Lego League competitions.

“Supporting and giving back to the community is one of Bishop-Wisecarver’s core values and I’m proud to see how our employees embrace internal fundraising events like this that support our community and STEM-based opportunities for students,” said Pamela Kan, President of Bishop-Wisecarver. “The East Bay NSBE provides exceptional STEM-based programming to these young students and we look forward to cheering on their FIRST teams this year!”

East Bay NSBE
The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is "to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community." The East Bay chapter offers Saturday and afterschool STEM-based activities that help students engage, learn and explore, with programs such as computer fundamentals, drone racing and FIRST Lego Leagues.

“We appreciate donors like Bishop-Wisecarver who understand the immense need to provide students with 21st century skills that will help them compete in a tech-driven global society,” said Jonathan Smith, Executive Director at East Bay NSBE. “These funds will help us offer curriculum and innovative technology to aid in the development of STEM skills by exposing students to real world engineering scenarios.”
