Overview
SlickStick™ from Bishop-Wisecarver is a highly unique self-contained linear actuator designed for light loads in harsh or wet conditions, in a very small package. It is capable of high speeds and is fully adjustable and field repairable. Based upon sliding elements, SlickStick™ is a low profile linear actuator with a stainless steel lead screw embedded into the center of a hard-coated aluminum shaft which is specially machined for the sliding linear bearings. The result is a light weight actuator featuring good load carrying characteristics, good accuracy and good stiffness under compression and tension loading.

A Complete Axis of Motion in a Compact, Rigid Platform
SlickStick™ is a screw driven linear actuator that boasts a small, streamlined footprint of 1.81" tall by 2.03" wide making it ideal for applications with tight space restrictions. SlickStick™ has standard travel lengths up to 65 inches and can provide speeds up to 20 inches per second. Designed with one inch diameter aluminum tubing that provides exceptional stiffness and rigidity in an envelope equivalent to the size of a support rail assembly. Precision outer diameter and flat surfaces provide a large area for the sliding contact bearing elements. A wide support base with flange mount and thru holes enable rigid attachment points.

Ready for Drive Motor
SlickStick™ comes standard with a motor coupler and NEMA 17 flange, making it ready to accept a drive motor. An optional NEMA 23 motor flange accessory is available for larger, higher performance installations. BWC can provide motorized solutions complete with programming.

Unique Travel Technology
Unlike any other product, the screw within SlickStick™ has its entire circumference encompassed within the nut. One inch diameter aluminum tubing provides exceptional stiffness and rigidity. Tapped holes on the carriage allow for mounting on three orthogonal sides. Easily adaptable to aesthetically pair with a non-driven support rail assembly.

Where are SlickStick actuator products manufactured?

SlickStick actuators are produced at BWC headquarters near San Francisco, California, USA.

What materials are SlickStick actuators made from?

SlickStick is mostly aluminum in construction and made form 6061-T6 and 6063-T6 grades. The fastener hardware is all stainless steel including the lead screw and support bearings. The lead screw nut and sliding element linear bearings are made of plastic polymers.

Why is the carriage preload adjustment feature a benefit?

The ability to adjust the carriage preload is a benefit to end-users because it enables an application specific "feel" or "tune". The adjustment can be loose for less friction and lower wear rates, but a decrease in accuracy with additional carriage rock. A tighter adjustment will have more friction and higher wear rates, but improved accuracy and reduced carriage rock. Adjustments can be made periodically during the life of the actuator to compensate for wear in the bearing elements.

What fasteners are recommended for mounting SlickStick?

The base of the SlickStick has through hole and counter bore features to accommodate either 8-32 or M4 fasteners. Low head cap screws or button head cap screws in stainless steel are recommended.

How do I replace worn parts, or disassemble my SlickStick?

There is a guide for how to properly disassemble my SlickStick and install the replacement parts that come in the repair kit. Contact BWC application engineers for this documentation.
