Sponsorships and Community Involvement
For Bishop-Wisecarver founder Bud Wisecarver, engineering and entrepreneurship are second nature. In this spirit, Bishop-Wisecarver strives to support students and programs related to engineering, education and manufacturing.
Cuts to education funding have translated to fewer vocational programs in many schools. Without these programs, students are denied the experiences that could lead to rewarding – and lucrative – trade careers.
Bud Wisecarver has worked hard for more than 30 years to bridge the gap between the business world and the educational community through sponsorships and classroom lectures. His daughter, Bishop-Wisecarver President Pamela Kan, continues that tradition through her work with the Industrial Association of Contra Costa County.
What is FIRST?
FIRST was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. The 2012-2013 season involved around 303,000 students, around 29,200 teams, and about 100,000 mentors, volunteers, and partners.
